I ye olden days, technical drawings were done with a special ink akin to Chinese calligraphy ink and done on a a special paper that was kind of glossy. The ink didn't soak deep into the paper and could be removed with a razor blade or the blue end of those erasers. The blue ink used in schools is different. It is similar to the ink used for signing documents and, thus, is meant to be not erasable. The paper is also different, it is meant to soak up ink, not have ink deposited on top.
